Is a good night’s sleep really that hard to come by?  If the best part of your morning is a tall cup of stimulant, maybe it’s time to start questioning how well you are sleeping.

1 in 3 adults are not getting a good night’s sleep.

If the recent boom in the bed in the box space means anything, it’s that we are sick and tired of not getting enough sleep.  According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 3 adults in America is not getting enough sleep and that is seriously affecting our health. Chances are, if you are reading this, you are one of the three. Are you drowsy as you drive? Do you drift to sleep while watching your favorite show? You could be suffering from a  serious lack of sleep. According to the CDC:

Sleeping less than seven hours per day is associated with an increased risk of developing chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and frequent mental distress.

So what are you going to do about it?

If you really want to get a good night’s sleep, you can’t take it laying down. It’s going to take some work, but while most hard work pays off eventually, getting a good night’s rest pays off every single morning. According to the director of the director of the public health division at the CDC  Dr. Wayne Giles, MD:

“Lifestyle changes such as going to bed at the same time each night; rising at the same time each morning; and turning off or removing televisions, computers, mobile devices from the bedroom, can help people get the healthy sleep they need.”

Could it really be that simple as setting a simple schedule, and turning off devices? It’s worth a try.

Maybe it’s the bed?

I know you may be a little suspicious of this, but hear us out. The problem just might be in your mattress. But don’t take our word for it. In this Web MD article Dr. Michael Decker PhD, RN from the American Academy of sleep medicine states:

“A mattress can impact a person’s sleep,”…”When you lie on any part of your body for an extended period of time, the weight of it reduces the flow of blood through those blood vessels, which deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients,”

The article goes on to recommend relieving pressure points. Dr. Decker even points out that there is some evidence that memory foam can help people with back pain sleep better. He sees the real advantage with memory foam comes from people sleeping with an active partner. Memory foam reduces motion transfer and pressure on key points in your body.

You don’t need coffee, you need a better bed

The best part of waking up is a good night’s sleep.

Okay, so you love your coffee, that’s fine, but if it’s the best part of your morning, maybe you need to rethink your sleeping arrangements. The best part of waking up should be the energy for a new and exciting day. You shouldn’t be thinking about the pain of waking up at all.

The best thing about a good night’s rest is that when you are sleeping well, you aren’t really thinking about your sleeping at all. You’ll always know when you have a pebble in your shoe,  but you don’t really think about your feet when your shoes are pebble-free. Maybe the best part of waking up is not looking hungrily for a stimulant to get you going.  You deserve something more to be excited about when you wake up.

If you do need a new mattress there are hundreds of options out there. We take your sleep very seriously and think we make a pretty great mattress too.
