Layla vs. Purple

When we compared the Purple and Layla mattresses side by side, first impressions were that the Layla mattress looked better, The cover felt better to the touch and the cover material felt significantly softer and more plush, and when you pressed your hand down on the mattress foam, The Layla feels more supportive, as the purple grid felt somewhat loose, like jelly. One tester said “The Layla mattress felt more substantial, like it’s going to give better support.”

We won’t give an opinion on actually sleeping on the mattress, as it’s too biased and unless you’re the exact same size and shape of the reviewer with the same perspective, what the mattress feels like to you could be totally different. That said, based on the build of a mattress and the specs of the materials, we can certainly give you an idea of what to expect from it.

Purple: It’s difficult for us to give you an idea of what to expect from a Purple mattress because we don’t know the weights and densities of the foams in it, and they won’t tell us. The gel grid used by Purple is a very unique experience, and something that you’d have to try to ascertain if it’s a good feel for you. Our testers were split on the Purple grid, some did not like the feel, while others felt like it could be something they could adapt to.

Layla: Contrary to most mattress brands, Layla has very specific minimum foam weights and densities posted. According to those specs you can expect a mattress that feels ultra-supportive, but still plush (some customers have called it “soft support”), and you can also expect a very durable product that will provide a long life...because, specs!
